Sooyeon Kang Celebrates More than 20 Years of Professional Excellence

Ms. Kang developed the flight software that allowed for the launch of the Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite



With more than 20 years of experience, Ms. Kang has been a senior researcher for flight software at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) since 1996.

    DAEJEON, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, January 12, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sooyeon Kang has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With more than 20 years of experience, Ms. Kang has been a senior researcher for flight software at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) since 1996, and on the Fourth Industrial Revolution Committee since September of this year. In 1999, she developed the flight software that allowed the launch of the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-1 (KOMPSAT-1). She also served on the Information Committee for Daejeon Metropolitan City from 2008 to 2016, and for Women in Science, Engineering, and Technology for KARI from 2015 to 2016.

Ms. Kang began her career by obtaining a Master of Computer Science and Engineering from Kyung Hee University in 1996. She is currently a PhD candidate in Computer Science and Engineering with Chungnam National University. She has been affiliated with the Korea Society of Satellite Technology since 2013, and the Korea Institute for Information Scientists and Engineers since 1998. She takes great pride in her flight software development for the launch of KOMPSAT-1 in 1999, and the Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) in 2010.

Throughout her career, Ms. Kang has been recognized for her contributions to the field. In 2012, the Ministry of Science and Technology gave her an Award for Achievement for the successful launch of COMS, and Award for Achievement in 2000 for the successful launch of KOMPSAT-1. Ms. Kang is the daughter of Jae-Il Kang and Jung-Sook Oh, and is the proud parent of three sons, ChangWan Ha, ChangJae Ha, and SeungJae Ha, with her husband, SunWoo Ha. An avid mountain climber in her spare time, she attributes her success to her family, colleagues, and the Republic of Korea. She plans to continue her involvement in satellite development in the years to come.
