John has worked as a secretary, horseshoer, wilderness guide, trail crew foreman, millworker, machinist and private investigator. John's first book, The Woman Who Married a Bear, was published in 1993 and won the Shamus Award for the Best First Mystery of that year. His third book, The Music of What Happens, won the 1997 Spotted Owl Award for Best Northwest Mystery.

The second guest featured on the show will be Peter Webb author of Rainbows End. The third author guest as well as the musical talent will be Laura Duksta, author of the New York Times best-selling children's book I Love You More. This book is a conversation between a mother and a child about what their love means to them. With a simple, touching story, rhyme and rhythm, and vibrant child-like illustrations, this book will be treasured by anyone who has ever said "I love you" and heard the best response in the world, "I love you more." Her message is simple and powerful: take your biggest weakness and turn it into your biggest blessing. Laura stresses the point that "it's ok to be different.
