MPUMALANGA, SOUTH AFRICA, April 13, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The proprietary waste disposal technology has been developed purposely for the disposal of condemned abattoir waste and specific risk materials whereby all animal tissue, fat or even blood can broken down into its basic building blocks (amino acids, small peptides, sugars and nutrients) along with the mineral ash of the bones and teeth (calcium phosphate).

The technology makes use of elevated temperatures (less than 100 Celsius) and a small amount of chemical (already widely used in abattoirs) that effects the release of a diatomic anion under very specific conditions, thereby encouraging the insertion of ions between the atoms of the bonds that hold complex protein together. The decomposition process is rapid (6 - 24 hours) and results in a sterile and stable liquid that can be beneficially used in compost, liquid fertilizer, feedstock for bio-gas generators, an additive to the bio-diesel process or can be safely land filled as a bio-solid.

The technology / process produces no malodorous or harmful emissions such as dioxins or furans. A small quantity of Ammonia is released during the process, but is limited to levels below those typically found in abattoir holding pens. The system comes complete and ready to use. ISO-Standard Health and Safety and Environmental Management Plan and staff training will be provided with every unit at no additional cost. The system is not land nor labor intensive, and can be implemented as an effective end-of-line process at any abattoir or meat processing plant, large or small.

The technology, although ground-breaking, utilizes proven and solid scientific principles and methods that are used extensively in Europe and the USA as non-incineration alternatives for the disposal of TSE infected carcasses and tissue for more than a decade. This is important to know as new technology often has no proven basis or research to fall back on.

The company will offer the technology to interested parties on an outright sale and technology transfer basis. This is intended to buffer the cashflow implications that acquisition of new technology could potentially have, making our technology very affordable and accessible to clients of any size.

The development of a safe, affordable, environmentally friendly and industry-specific solution that effectively addresses a very real and pressing need for abattoir owners, and that yields an useful end-product, cannot be seen as anything but positive for all stakeholders.

"Our initial product launch strategy only included South Africa as a primary market, but we soon realized that international interest in our uniquely cost effective abattoir waste tissue disposal systems will in all probability outstrip local demand by a factor of 20..." said Piet Kruger, Managing Partner of Convertech Biological Conversion Technologies this week.
