/24-7PressRelease/ -- A new report by the Confederation of British Industry describes changes in labeling as a 'win win for businesses and consumers' and one that will help the UK meet its carbon reduction targets. The report offers particular encouragement for SMEs, which can often be quicker to seize the initiative, to innovate and therefore to gain market share and status.
The CBI report Buying into it: making the consumer case for low carbon is backed by detailed national research conducted by IPSOS Mori. It includes the results of detailed face to face consumer interviews along with case studies from car manufacturing to telecommunications and retailing. The evidence suggests that when consumers have clear, reliable labeling information enabling them to compare products and make choices, the balance tips in balance in favour of greener products over others of similar price and performance.
The report emphasises that government must find more creative ways to join up consumer demand and business investment in low-carbon technologies and production processes. The report echoes research from the Carbon Trust which found that two-thirds of consumers felt it was important to buy from environmentally responsible companies.
