Over the last couple of months Special Ops have faced the unknown of where their future was to be decided. The devastating news of their Special Ops bassist Waldo Thornhill being diagnosed with colon cancer two days prior of the "Brinigin The Madness Canadian Tour" to kick off in Ottawa in May 2008 was a harsh blow to the band's integrity.
Facing the most difficult time in their band's career, Special Ops has rallied together as the prevailing troops that they are.
"We fight on, we do not back down from no one. Victory of this battle will be ours." Special Ops guitarist Akbar Johnson said. "This is just a minor trench war that we are prepared to annihilate. The new album we're recording is going to surprise many. It is definitely the most creative and most interesting album yet."
When Waldo was doing treatment, his bass was his rifle, fighting against the enemy, and striking it with strong morale and confidence that it would be defeated.
"Thanks for the support from the fans; I appreciate everything everyone has done." Special Ops bassist Waldo Thornhill said. "Recording this new album is my greatest triumph & my bass has been my weapon of choice in conquering this small battle in life."
Special Ops will be in the barracks recording their new album over the next couple months. Currently, Special Ops second album Phase 2: Amidst The Madness is available at HMV, Indie Pool, CD Baby, The Diskery, http://www.opsmission.com, bestbuy.com, http://www.amazon.ca. Digital distribution through: MusicNet, Apple iTunes, MusicIsHere.
ABOUT: Special Ops has emerged to become one of the most sought after outfits in an age where bottom heavy distorted elegance is found to consort with ethnically infused infectious rhythms. Thrusting with a double barrelled vocal assault and securing with a well-armed rhythm section, it is standard operational procedure for this joint task force to be moving to higher ground.
With quick and accurate bombardment, they have been able to blow away North American audiences using a fully equipped live musical attack. Singer Abe Froman with a style of his own and a stage energy that needs to be seen. Bassist Waldo Thornhill and Guitarist Akbar Johnson's accuracy of a sniper and vocal balance followed by the pounding power of drums by Clarence Mcgillacutty for their second album setting Special Ops apart from the rest. The group has gained recognition by means of their unique chemistry which functions in creating their cutting edge music.
