/24-7PressRelease/ -- Come row your boat with Spectrum Community Services at the eleventh annual Canoe-A-Thon on Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Proud Lake Recreation Area in Commerce Township. A full day of fun begins at 10:00 am at the Proud Lake Canoe Launch, where participants will canoe west along the Huron River to Kensington Park. There will be a pit stop near Milford Central Park for refreshments. Proceeds from the Canoe-A-Thon will be used to purchase equipment, furniture, clothing and holiday gifts for clients. In addition, the funds will also supplement medical and dental expenses not covered by Medicaid.
Established in 1976, Spectrum Community Services provides community-based, residential treatment facilities as an alternative to institutionalization of mentally and physically challenged individuals. Some of the clients living in these residential group homes may have a combination of physical, developmental, or mental disabilities, autism or may suffer from Alzheimer's/Dementia.
