WESTLAND, MI, April 23, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Spectrum Human Services, Inc. & Affiliated Companies has been awarded a one-year grant from the Alliance for Children and Families to receive mentoring assistance in providing services for aging adults. As one of ten agencies selected though a competitive, national process, Spectrum Human Services, Inc. was selected because of an interest in issues related to aging and a desire to expand current services for the aging population. Operation ABLE of Michigan, one of six affiliated companies of Spectrum Human Services, provides employment services, training and support to mature adults throughout metro Detroit.
The grant is part of the New Age of Aging, a five-year initiative of the Alliance, designed to help prepare human service organizations throughout North America to meet the needs of older adults. The five-year, $2.6 million project is funded by the Atlantic Philanthropies. Spectrum Human Services, Inc. has been matched with Family Services of Westchester, Inc. of Port Chester, NY, an agency that has extensive experience in developing and providing services for older adults.
Throughout the coming year, Spectrum Human Services, Inc. and Family Services of Westchester, Inc. will work together to establish goals and take action for expanding Spectrum's efforts to serve older adults. The mentoring relationship will begin in May 2010, when all mentoring grant winners will attend the National Mentoring Initiative/Leadership Academy in Milwaukee WI. The purpose of the academy is to learn strategies and develop skills that will reinforce the benefits and lay the groundwork of the mentoring relationship.
According to Roger Swaninger, President & CEO, "This opportunity puts Spectrum Human Services, Inc. in a strong position to move forward in expanding and strengthening services for older adults throughout the state of Michigan.
