PERSHORE, ENGLAND, May 20, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- This summer, the Chapterhouse Theatre Company and the Angel Inn Hotel, Pershore, present a live open air garden theatre production of Jane Austen's beloved masterpiece, Pride and Prejudice.
The evening performance, taking place in the Angel gardens on Saturday 7th August, is part of the theatre company's nationwide tour, which takes in an amazing 41 venues over 43 dates. The tour is part of their eleventh season of productions, with performances delivered at locations across the United Kingdom.
Austen's classic English novel, Pride and Prejudice, has been adapted for the stage by award-winning writer Laura Turner. It is an ambitious undertaking, but Austen's unique take on love and romance in the English countryside has proved to be the perfect summer evening's entertainment, thrilling audiences.
First published in 1813, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of the spirited Elizabeth Bennet and her four sisters. Elizabeth and her elder sister Jane must contend with their interfering mother as they pursue their own quest for true love and happiness in the face of a series of misunderstandings, misconceptions and mistakes. Constantly questioning society's expectations, Elizabeth finds she must learn to overcome her own prejudices after she encounters the enigmatic, but seemingly proud, Mr Darcy. This tale of morals, manners and marriage in early 19th century society has stood the test of time and resulted in numerous stage and screen adaptations.
Chapterhouse pride themselves on producing accessible, traditional but innovative shows which entertain thousands of theatre-goers across the country every year. Hilary Philpott, General Manager at the Angel Inn Hotel, says: "I am really excited and proud to announce our first ever partnership with a professional touring theatre company. Chapterhouse are renowned throughout the UK and the fact that the production is going to be of Pride and Prejudice makes it even better.
"I am really looking forward to it and hope that people will bring their picnics, rugs and candelabras to join us for a night of quality theatre under the stars."
The performance starts at 7pm and audience members may bring a picnic along or, for an extra special evening, book a pre-theatre dinner at the Angel restaurant, with the option to finish the night off with a post-theatre dessert. The gardens will be open from 6.30pm with an outside bar serving Prosecco, Pimms, and a selection cask ales, cider and wines.
