/24-7PressRelease/ - MINNEAPOLIS, MN, March 30, 2008 - Older Than America and The Marconi Bros. Look To Minneapolis-Based Creative Post House For Solutions

Further broadening their foothold in the independent film community, the award-winning full-service post house Splice Here led by editor Clayton Condit, has completed work on "Older Than America" and "The Marconi Brothers."

These are two highly-touted independent films that will premiere at the SXSW Film Festival (http://2008.sxsw.com/film/festival/films/), Austin, Texas from March 7-15.

"We're very proud to have played a role in these two exceptional films," Condit said. "Filmmakers are beginning to realize the tremendous cost-savings they can have when they venture out of New York and Los Angeles. With the talent of our artists and our depth of technical understanding, Splice Here can be a tremendous resource for a filmmaker with a tight post budget. We see this as just the beginning in terms of turning Minneapolis into a creative hub for filmmakers, production companies and studios."

Older Than America:
Condit served as the offline editor for Older Than America, a powerful drama from first-time filmmaker Georgina Lightning that tells the story of a woman's haunting visions that reveal a Catholic priest's sinister plot to silence her mother from speaking the truth about atrocities that occurred at a Native Indian boarding school. Lightning also wrote, produced and stars in the film.

For Condit, who was also on set during production editing dallies for the young filmmaker, the challenge was simply to establish a creative relationship with Lightning.

"As an editor you have to wear a lot of different hats and this was no different," Condit explained. "I had to figure her out and where she wanted to go creatively. There is a really important story to be told with this film and she often talked about it in a big picture, abstract way. We had a lot of discussions about the history behind the events in this film and how to best portray that in this story."

Lightning noted that working with Condit, who edited using Final Cut Pro HD, and Splice Here turned out to be one of the best decisions she made for the film's post.

"I thought I was going to work in LA, but when I met Clayton, who made himself available to come on set and edit the dailies and supervise the post, it just made sense to continue with them," said Lightning. "The level of commitment they gave to the project was remarkable. If we posted in LA I'm sure we would have been just another indie film, but Splice brought a tremendous amount of time and resources to the project. They put a lot of effort into making the film as great as it could be and I appreciate that."

The Marconi Bros:
The smart comedy, The Marconi Bros, directed and written by Marco Ricci and Michael Canzoniero, tells the story of brothers Anthony and Carmine Marconi who have been dutifully serving out life sentences in the family carpet business. However, their opportunity to escape occurs when they meet the undisputed king of the Long Island wedding video business, played by actor Jon Polito, perhaps best known for his roles in the Coen Brothers films The Big Lebowski and The Man Who Wasn't There.

Splice Here tackled the online editorial, color correct/finishing, titles and visual effects compositing. The film was transferred to HDCam SR 4:4:4 and finished using Final Cut Pro and Apple's Color software.

Splice Here's Michael Sandness handled the color correction and finishing, spending several days with the directors and the DP to achieve the look they envisioned for the film.

"They were looking for me to take their vision to another level," said Sandness. "Essentially they wanted to create separate looks for the two worlds the main characters occupy. When they are in their family carpet business world they wanted it to have a sepia toned, industrial look. But when they enter the Long Island, NY wedding video world they wanted it to feel brighter, warmer and more posh. The challenge was to take those two looks and make them feel seamless."

With both Older Than America and The Marconi Brothers premiering at a film festival as well respected as SXSW, the likelihood of both finding a distributor and reaching a mass audience seems good. It's a prospect that will not only enhance Splice Here's reputation as a player in the independent film market, but also for the city of Minneapolis as a viable alternative to posting in New York or Los Angeles.
