SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, December 17, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/
-- SportsSignup (http://sportssignup.com
), a national leader in online registration management systems
for sports organizations, is making it convenient for event organizers and participants to support charitable causes in their communities.
Participants in last month's 65th Annual Troy Turkey Trot in Troy, N.Y., used SportsSignup's integrated, intuitive drop-down feature on the race's online registration page to voluntarily contribute more than $12,000 to local nonprofit organizations.
SportsSignup, whose services include secure online management of registrations and fees for road races and other individual sports, developed the feature as a hassle-free way for users, if they choose, to designate contributions to a select charity or charities.
The concept is simple. At checkout, a registrant is given the option to make a contribution. The designated amount, if any, is added to the registration fee. There is no limit to the number of nonprofit organizations that can be listed in the drop-down feature.
"We believe very strongly in the value and importance of community-based nonprofit organizations, and we're proud to offer a convenient, secure way for individuals to support these services where they live," said Anthony Bruno, CEO of SportsSignup. "Every amount is significant because of the cumulative effect. We saw that very clearly with the Troy Turkey Trot."
Every cent of charitable gifts goes directly to the designated organization. The Lansingburgh (N.Y.) Boys and Girls Club, one of the beneficiaries of directed giving by participants in the Troy Turkey Trot, planned to use its share of the proceeds to buy new computers for its homework room and replenish arts and crafts supplies.
"This is a tremendous boost for an organization like ours," said Joe Manupella, executive director of the Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club. "Anthony and his team are very dedicated to strong communities, and it shows. We're very grateful to SportsSignup for putting its resources to work for the benefit of the families we serve."
SportsSignup has thousands of customers nationwide for its online sports registration
, volunteer background checking and concussion management services for youth sports. In recent years, the company has expanded into individual participation sports, offering online registration for such prominent events as the annual Freihofer's Run for Women, which draws thousands of runners each June to downtown Albany, N.Y., and the Troy Turkey Trot, which this year set a record with over 8,000 participants.
Last year, for the first time, SportsSignup teamed with the Freihofer's Run for Women to become the presenting sponsor of the Freihofer's Junior 3K, a road race for boys and girls ages 8 to 13. The 2013 Freihofer's Junior 3K presented by SportsSignup will take place on Saturday, June 1. Registration for the event will open soon. As with last year, the 2013 Freihofer's Junior 3K presented by SportsSignup will include a charitable component -- "Kids Helping Kids," with donations supporting the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center.
