The Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) has been in use at St. Joseph's Hospital NICU located in London, Ontario, since January 13th, 2007. The Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) is a wireless (browser based, client-server), real-time, HIPAA compliant, bar-coding system that uses Motorola MC70 Enterprise Digital Assistants (EDA) to help Neonatology professionals eliminate patient misidentification and medical mismatches of breast milk in the NICU.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Developmental Follow Up Clinic at St. Joseph's Hospital specializes in the care of premature newborn infants. Part of this care includes the feeding of a mother's expressed breast milk which is stored onsite to these infants.

All information is updated wirelessly, in real time, across the entire system so caregivers at St. Joseph's Hospital are equipped with the most up to date information. This gives caregivers the ability to determine which babies have already been fed or instantly find bottle locations via Motorola MC70 EDAs, as they walk the unit floor.
