/24-7PressRelease/ - CHARLOTTETOWN, PE, CANADA, July 23, 2008 - Timeless Medical Systems and St. Joseph's Health Care, London announced today the results of their implementation of the Timeless Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) . The Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) has been in use at St. Joseph's Hospital NICU located in London, Ontario, since January 13th, 2007. The Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) is a wireless (browser based, client-server), real-time, HIPAA compliant, bar-coding system that uses Motorola MC70 Enterprise Digital Assistants (EDA) to help Neonatology professionals eliminate patient misidentification and medical mismatches of breast milk in the NICU.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Developmental Follow Up Clinic at St. Joseph's Hospital specializes in the care of premature newborn infants. Part of this care includes the feeding of a mother's expressed breast milk which is stored onsite to these infants.
"We are very pleased with how intuitive and easy to use the Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) has been for us," stated Val Rousom, Director of the St. Joseph's Hospital NICU. "We have been able to eliminate the risk of patient misidentification as well as improve on our milk management processes and efficiency."
John Rowe, President of Timeless Medical Systems, added, "The entire process of storage and administration of breast milk at St. Joseph's is managed by the Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS). The system provides a comprehensive audit trail with in depth reporting capabilities to ensure regulatory compliance. The standard and customized reports provided by the Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) have assisted St. Joseph's in eliminating paperwork by giving them the ability to print off needed information with the click of a button."
The Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) has saved St. Joseph's NICU time by eliminating the need for double and triple 'visual' checking by staff to see if a baby's patient band matches that of the bottle to be fed.
All information is updated wirelessly, in real time, across the entire system so caregivers at St. Joseph's Hospital are equipped with the most up to date information. This gives caregivers the ability to determine which babies have already been fed or instantly find bottle locations via Motorola MC70 EDAs, as they walk the unit floor.
"Motorola's rugged MC70 Enterprise Digital assistants meet the demands of healthcare customers, such as St. Joseph's, with real-time access to patient information," said Jeff Schou, senior director of healthcare, Motorola Enterprise Mobility business. "Designed to withstand the rigors of everyday use in fast-pased environments, the MC70 is a versatile mobile computing solution well-suited for hospital environments."
The Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) is not designed to replace existing workflows, but rather, to compliment them. This is done by using Timeless Medical Systems' proprietary technologies in conjunction with Motorola MC70 EDAs. Timeless has worked with St. Joseph's NICU to customize the Mother's Own Milk System (MOMS) to seamlessly adapt to their current best practices.
