Perhaps best known for his innovations in hip fracture fixation and total joint replacement, Dr. Asnis currently holds the esteemed position of Chairman Emeritus with the Northwell Health network of hospitals and now continues to serve as Chief of Adult Joint Reconstruction. He is the developer of the Asnis series of cannulated screw systems, and holds patents for hip joint prosthesis a tibial component of total knee system. In addition to a slew of related technologies, Dr. Asnis' innovations are the result of many years as an orthopedic surgeon and clinical professor in New York.

Born to Gordon and Ruth Selma Asnis in Newark, New Jersey. Dr. Asnis attended Franklin and Marshall College then Washington University School of Medicine. He served a surgical intern and resident with the New York Hospital, Cornell University. He then focused on orthopedic surgery as a resident and research fellow at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He was certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. In 1976 Dr. Asnis joined North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. At North Shore he became Chief of the Center for Joint Replacement in 1992, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery 1997, and Combined Chairman of The Department of Orthopaedic at North Shore LIJ from 2007 to 2011. He has lectured throughout the United States and in eight foreign countries. He has taught residents as an Associate Professor in Orthopaedics at Cornell Weil University, Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Hofstra Northwell Medical School.

In addition to individual prosthetic components, Dr. Asnis was instrumental in the development of the Rx 90 Total Hip System and the Monolock Tibia. He holds patents for a device used in guiding the insertion of surgical wires, a device for arthroscopic suturing, ratcheting compression screw. and a rotating ratcheting bone screw among other devices. Dr. Asnis has been an editor for "Cannulated Screw Fixation: Principles and Operative Techniques" as well as a contributor to numerous medical journals. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the American Orthopedic Association.

For dedicated service to the medical science of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Asnis was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. He has raised four children. He has been selected to Castle Connolly's Top Doctors in America for over 20 consecutive years.
