STARTING A NEW HOLIDAY TRADITION, BACK WHERE LAS VEGAS BEGAN

A growing Las Vegas congregation returns to the roots of our Jewish community for High Holy Days

/24-7PressRelease/ - LAS VEGAS, NV, August 09, 2007 - This year, Valley Outreach Synagogue celebrates Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in downtown Las Vegas, just a short distance from where the city's first congregation formed.

Back when America's fastest growing metro area was new, leaders who built the city created a connection to their Jewish heritage in a small storefront shul on Carson Street. Now, a new generation of Las Vegans will again have the opportunity to attend High Holy Day services downtown, at Neonopolis.

"Many Las Vegans remain unaffiliated... they haven't reconnected with their Judaism since moving to town," according to Rabbi Yocheved Mintz. "Valley Outreach Synagogue offers the opportunity to get back to the Jewish things they miss. It's an open, friendly, welcoming congregation and community, without the burdens of synagogue membership dues or building funds they left behind."

Valley Outreach Synagogue is a 12-year old Reconstructionist congregation that brings together the best things many remember from their shuls back home — warm, traditional services and a comfortable, inclusive community — all without financial pressures (donations are appreciated) and community politics (all are welcome) that keep some new Las Vegans from returning to their Jewish roots.

VOS will hold Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services in a theater provided by Neonopolis owner Rohit Joshi, who works hard to support the downtown revitalization, strongly supported by Mayor Oscar Goodman. Services will begin (in Galaxy Theater 11) at 7:30PM, Erev Rosh Hashanah and Erev Yom Kippur, and continue Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur mornings at 10:00AM. Parking is provided, below Neonopolis, at 4th and Fremont Street, downtown.

While membership is not required, and there is no charge to attend, seating is limited and reservations are necessary. Call Valley Outreach Synagogue, 702.436.4900, for reservations and more information.
