Stay-at-home Brits boost motor home sales
The increasing trend to save on the expense of foreign holidays and rediscover the British countryside is having a positive impact on one Derbyshire business

SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND, February 14, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Family owned and run Derby-based motor home dealers, Peak Leisure Vehicles, are benefiting from increased interest in motor homes and caravans as families look for cheaper options of enjoying a traditional family holiday together.

Steve and Claire Parsons of Peak Leisure Vehicles in Kirk Langley report that interest in motor caravanning is increasing, and enquiries from a broader spectrum of people continue to flood in despite the recession. Steve said: "The cost of holidays abroad and the comfort and freedom that you get from taking a holiday in a motor home or caravan means that more and more people are making the decision to make the investment in their own vehicle. When people weigh up the costs of taking a holiday abroad each year - balanced against the fact that they can go away whenever they feel like it in a motor home - the decision becomes easy. "

The recent poor performance of the Euro has positively impacted on domestic tourism and provides an incentive for British holiday makers to re-engage with the great British Countryside. Steve suggests that the stress levels in people's lives means that one holiday per year is not enough. "People's passion for motor homes is fuelled primarily by the freedom to take a break at the drop of a hat. You need very little planning or thought to just jump in the vehicle and take advantage of miles and miles of previously unexplored countryside. Derbyshire is a fantastic example; from Derby City centre you can be in breathtaking Peak District National Park in minutes," added Steve.

Motor caravanning, previously considered a past-time for the 'empty nesters' spending their
lump-sum retirement payouts, is now engaging a much more diverse audience. Steve explains:
"We are sourcing and selling motor homes to younger couples with children and pets because they are seeking more flexibility when it comes to taking time off from the stresses of everyday life. We have two young children and we are strong advocates of this way of taking time out with the family. You are not restricted to taking your holidays at a particular time of year any more, as the holiday season has been extended to meet customer demand."

Peak Leisure Vehicles was founded by Steve and Claire Parsons in February 2007 and the couple are looking forward to a third successful year in business. "The first year was really about getting known in the industry and the second was all about developing a strong customer base. Having successfully laid the foundations we are really upbeat about trading in 2009. The recession, if anything might well be of benefit to us, as it makes taking to the road in a motor home easier and more attractive than ever."
