Stephen Larsen, PhD, award-winning author and Psychology Professor Emeritus from SUNY Ulster, New York, will be interviewed by Michael Jon Kell, MD, PhD, on the Mind, Brain, Body program Friday, May 29, 2009, 8-9 am PT, 11 am-12 noon ET, live on the Internet at mindbrainbody.com and on Voice America Health and Wellness network. They will discuss a natural healing method for all kinds of cognitive and emotional impairments put forth in Larsen's book The Healing Power of Neurofeedback: The Revolutionary LENS Method for Restoring Optimal Brain Function (Inner Traditions/Healing Arts Press).
Dr. Larsen will provide a glimpse into the psychology and neurology of trauma and depression, and will discuss the innovative LENS (low energy feedback system) therapy that restores optimal functioning of the brain after physical damage or emotional challenges. The method is also known to successfully treat childhood developmental disorders. Dr. Larsen believes the LENS method is an important alternative to chemical approaches for chronic behavioral disorders such as ADHD, and, mono-polar and bipolar depression.
When Dr. Larsen was on the faculty at Ulster, 1968-1996, he directed a program in consciousness studies and biofeedback that gave students a hands-on opportunity to train themselves, and to research the health benefits of biofeedback. In 1990 he opened Stone Mountain Counseling, PC, for psychotherapy, biofeedback and training where he continues to serve as its director.
Radio host Dr. Michael Jon Kell is a medical scientist, psychiatrist, inventor, engineer, narrative poet and "free-thinker". He has conducted scientific research on a diverse number of subjects - quantum physics, polymer chemistry, artificial kidneys, drug addiction, pain management, longevity medicine, and herbal medicine, to name a few. He holds 11 U.S. patents for his discoveries, and is the author of ten books and over 50 scientific publications. He is also the founding Director of the Institute for Conscious Evolution and Human Development, an esoteric mystery school, which provides dogma-free instruction on "how one can become a cosmically significant individual capable of laboring for the betterment of all life and mind." In addition to The Healing Power of Neurofeedback, Dr. Larsen wrote the widely acclaimed, award-winning book The Fundamentalist Mind: How Polarized Thinking Has Imperiled Us All. He has also written The Shaman's Doorway, the Mythic Imagination and with his wife Robin Larsen he co-authored, A Fire in the Mind: The Life of Joseph Campbell. Larsen was a Joseph Campbell friend and protege.
