Stryker Rejuvenate & Stryker ABG II Hip Implant Lawsuit Settlement Update - New Registration Deadline for Lawsuit Participants

Stryker Lawsuit Registration Deadline Extended; Stryker Hip Claimants Can Receive Settlement Funding Now Through Atlas Legal Funding

"Despite the claims' submission deadline slated for March 16, there is still a long way to go before Stryker hip claimants will actually receive settlement funding," said Jeff Kahn, Managing Partner.

SECAUCUS, NJ, February 26, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Atlas Legal Funding, a provider of no-risk legal funding, today announced that the registration deadline for the Stryker $1.4 billion lawsuit settlement has been moved from March 2nd to March 16th.

Following the announcement of the Stryker hip settlement, federal judge U.S. District Court Justice Donovan Frank ordered the registration of all potential claims from patients who received defective Stryker Rejuvenate or Stryker ABG II hip implants. Under this settlement, thousands of Stryker hip implant patients will receive $300,000 each, or more, after having received defective hip devices. This registration deadline applies to those who accept the terms of the settlement and are eligible to participate -- regardless of whether a case has been filed or not.

Approximately 5,000 Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II Hip Lawsuits Have Been Filed; 20,000 Hip Device Implants Sold

A Stryker recall was issued in June 2012, when it was determined that the products pose an unreasonable risk of fretting, corroding and ultimately failing as the metal parts rub against each other. There are currently about 5,000 Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II hip lawsuits filed in state and federal courts nationwide; before the recall was issued, approximately 20,000 Rejuvenate and ABG II implants were sold.

Funding Likely to be Disbursed Late Summer or Early Fall 2015; Advanced Payments Disbursements Anticipated for Late 2015, Early 2016

The settlement is expected to result in a base payment of $300,000 for each Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG II plaintiff who underwent revision surgery on or before November 2, 2014, and otherwise qualifies for the settlement. In addition, individuals who suffered catastrophic injuries will be able to pursue additional compensation under the settlement if they meet several eligibility requirements for "enhancements".

"Despite the claims' submission deadline slated for March 16, there is still a long way to go before Stryker hip claimants will actually receive settlement funding," said Jeff Kahn, Managing Partner of Atlas Legal Funding. "Early estimates state that the first payments from the settlement will not happen until sometime during the late summer or early fall of 2015, with those that qualify for enhanced payments under the settlement agreement receiving payment at the end of 2015 or early in 2016."
