Studio Joseph Watts debuts in three showrooms on West Coast

/24-7PressRelease/ - NEWCASTLE, WA, September 06, 2006 - A new lighting and furniture line designed and handcrafted by Studio Joseph Watts is being introduced this month in three individual showrooms on the West Coast.
"I really fell for the line as soon as I saw it," said Stephen Anderson, co-owner of Blake House in Laguna Niguel. "There's just nothing on the market like it." Elinor L. Gordy, president of Elinor & Verve in Seattle, added, "It's just so nice to see a bold new line that is elegant in its simplicity."

The lighting line features innovative, modern chandeliers, wall sconces and hanging pendent lights as well as an outdoor entrance lantern. The furniture line features tables created of wood, metal and glass. The lines blend rare exotic woods with hand-rubbed finishes, hand-rubbed bronzes, stainless steel and kiln-formed glass. Every component of each piece is created and crafted in-house in the designers' own studio.

Joseph Barker, one of the three partners in Studio Joseph Watts, stresses the importance of the materials used and how they're treated. "Our processes take more time. We hand-rub our metals and oil-rub our woods so that we can show the richness of our solid materials. We don't use lacquers on our woods because that is just a fast way to coat the material, and our woods aren't veneers on an MDF core. Our bronze is solid, not a steel that's plated to look like bronze."

Jenise Yagle, another of the partners, explains that the creation process is environmentally conscious. "Because there is no plating, lacquers or heavy varnishes used, all of the lighting fixtures and furniture are finished using natural processes without any toxic effects to the environment. The exotic woods are harvested from plantation growth and the finishing oils are friendly to the environment."

Susan Carr, owner of Sloan Miyasato of San Francisco, was emphatic in her endorsement: "I wanted to be the first to represent the line. I didn't want them going to my competition. They may be a small tight line right now, but they're going to be big."

Studio Joseph Watts is comprised of three creative partners: brothers Joseph and James Barker, who have collaborated for years on kinetic sculptures that have been commissioned for public, commercial and private residential installations around the country, and Jenise Yagle, who owned and operated her own design firm in Los Angeles. The artists' manufacturing and design studio in El Segundo, California, is housed in a converted and restored mercantile building dating from the early 1900's.

The line debuts this month at Sloan Miyasato in the San Francisco Design Center, Blake House in the Laguna Design Center and Elinor & Verve in the Seattle Design Center.

The product can be viewed at the studio website, http://www.josephwatts.com, and ordered through the listed showrooms.
