The study also revealed that to build interest ahead of a launch, 51% of consumers find online offers and competitions to be the most effective ways to catch their attention, while 38% are interested in video content and 35% like to see behind-the-scenes information. Olympus Marketing were surprised to discover that consumers do not see social media as a priority and only 4% base their buying decision on social buzz. Even when only looking at respondents in the 18-24 age brackets only 8% believe social media would encourage them to buy a new product. Bad reviews discourage 29% of shoppers, but unsurprisingly the biggest deterrent is price, according to 75% of shoppers.
