Sub300.com pledges to double Microsoft\'s offer to help rebuild from tsunami damage

/24-7PressRelease.com/ - TORONTO, ON, Jan 4, 2005 - Sub300.com, North America's only Linux store announced today the launch of MAKE A DIFFERENCE -- a two-part nationwide campaign that will generate urgently needed funds for the massive relief effort underway in Asia following the devastation of the tsunami earlier this week while also converting Microsoft Windows computer users to Linux, a great alternative operating system.

Starting today, and for the next ninety days, everyone who visits the Sub300.com website and purchases the Linux Challenge Bundle (featuring Linspire 4.5 Operating System, Open Office software suite and Firefox web browser software on 2 cds) for $19.99 (shipping included), Sub300.com will donate half of that amount to the Red Cross with the money earmarked for aid and relief of the victims of the tsunami.

Last month Sub300.com launched "The 164 Million computer challenge", a six part, 5-year program that will convert all Microsoft Windows users to Linspire, a popular Linux alternative to the Windows XP operating system. Thousands of requests confirm the need for an alternative option for desktop computer users. Sub300.com's "164 million computer challenge" allows Windows users the opportunity to convert their existing operating system to the latest version of Linspire, which includes an office suite, internet browser, cd-duplication software, and access to thousands of free programs. This is huge savings for your desktop computer. Marc Silverman, the company's director of public relations says, "Desktop Linux is available and it will revolutionize the computer industry by saving the general public from paying out ridiculous licensing fees associated with Microsoft products. Computer users must be made aware that there are more cost effective and better software alternatives available to them."

David Silverman, president of Sub300.com was devastated by the events. "I just came back from vacation with my wife and two kids, and I can't imagine going through that kind of horrible tragedy. We have to do what we can to help them rebuild", says Silverman.

Microsoft has committed to a donation of 3.5 million dollars. Sub300.com would like to double that donation. There are over 164 million computer users in North America. All it takes is less than half of 1% of those users to take advantage of this offer. Not only will it raise much-needed funds for tsunami victims, but it will also free Windows users from viruses, pop-ups, hackers and blue screens of death. It's a win-win situation.

Sub300.com implores you to contribute to the relief fund regardless of taking advantage of their switch-to-Linux offer. A donation-only option is available on the Sub300.com website.
