GULF SHORES, AL, July 03, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- On the heels of a busy June schedule, the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission is not slowing down in the summer heat as it announces two youth sporting events during the first half of July.
First to rally the beach will be the Third Annual Gulf Shores High School Volleyball Competition Camp, which is set for July 8th and 9th at the school gymnasium. Twelve high school teams - some from the surrounding Baldwin and Mobile Counties - will compete in head-to-head action. Matches kick off every 45 minutes from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both days. Admission is free. For more information, visit http://www.gs-hs.com.
USSSA action returns for the third time this summer with the Global Baseball World Series. Approximately 96 teams representing age divisions 10U, 12U and 14U will compete in nearly 250 games from July 9th through 12th.
"Hosting this World Series is a great opportunity," said Beth Gendler, director of sales for the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission. "In addition to the other volleyball tournament, this baseball event will attract about 1,000 children to our area. Traveling with these young athletes will also be about 1,500 family members and friends, who will have the opportunity to experience all that our beach destination has to offer."
Opening ceremonies for the tournament will be held Wednesday, July 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Orange Beach Sportsplex, and admission is free.
Both the Gulf Shores Sportsplex and the Orange Beach Sportsplex will host tournament play. Games will be held Thursday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day. Adult admission (age 15 and over) is $10.00 per day or $25.00 for a tournament pass. Daily admission for children ages 6 through 14 is $6.00 while a tournament pass is $20.00 for these age groups. Children age 5 and under will be admitted free of charge.
