The show reveals jealous siblings, stressed parents, school rivals and above all the atrocious behavior of spoiled rich kids. The teens' methods are extreme and extravagant, as they endeavor to ensure the milestone of their 16th birthday is commemorated as the ultimate celebration of all celebrations.
MTV is launching a 'My Super Sweet 16 Exiled' in a new season.
· Melany, to the high altitudes of Peru
· Chelsi, to the frozen tundra of Norway
· Ava, to the jungles of Thailand
· Bjorn, sent to the deserts of Moroco
· Marissa, to the hills of India
· Amanda, to the wilds of Kenya
· Sierra, to the bush of Vanuatu.
Growing up as the daughter of famous hip-hop and soul musical star, Cee-Lo, has taught Sierra how to be the ultra Prima Dona. This was clearly revealed at her legendary Sweet 15 birthday party.
Three years later, Sierra is more of a diva than ever before. Her parents want to show Sierra that everything won't be handed to her on a silver platter all her life.
They agreed to have her exiled to a remote volcanic tropical island of Vanuatu, in the South Pacific. There she'll learn that it's not ' who you know ', but ' who you are', that will earn respect in the bush of Vanuatu. Sierra will find out what it is like to eat, live and sleep the way the villager teenagers have lived for generations.
Walking for many hours to reach the village, Sierra will find that after dark there is no electric light to be switched on, just the glow from the firelight. There will be no hot and cold running water for a shower. If Sierra is lucky she may have a pipe overhead that provides cold water. Or it may have to be a fully clothed dip in the river.
No food can be purchased from a super-market. Sierra will walk, with the other ladies, to the village garden, to harvest daily food supplies. Wood will have to be gathered for the fire, in order to cook the meals. The pig that has been selected to produce the highly prized curled tusks, (a form of currency in Vanuatu), will have to be hand fed.
Sierra will learn how cut and prepare the pandanus leaves and weave the coveted ceremonial mats, another form of currency. She will sleep on a mat on the coral, or earthen floor. If she is given the luxury of a bed, it will be made of split bamboo cut in half, with no mattress. The smoke from the fire in the middle of the room will keep the mosquitoes at bay.
Sierra will eat off carved wooden plates and maybe wooden utensils. Otherwise, fingers will be put to good use. Fresh coconut juice will be drunk instead of coffee. Elders of the village will pass on the ancient traditions and customs through stories, sand drawing, songs and dance, during the evenings. Sierra may challenge the spirits of the night when she is drawn in games organized for the children.
Sierra will come to understand the importance and value of traditional medicine made from the local plants. Modern medical help will be only be available at a small first aid clinic, miles away, that has been donated by aid-donor groups.
Returning to her fully equipped modern home, Sierra cannot be the same Prima Dona who left.
Sierra will find the teenagers in the village will never have the opportunity for formal education, like she has. But they will teach Sierra many things.
