CARNATION, WA, October 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The new "popular" tab will show up on every surch adding the ability to view what the most talked about, commented and viewed web pages are for a given topic and enabling users to influence the results with votes and comments.

"surchur launched in May of 2008 as one of the first real time search engines with the intent of creating a dashboard to all of the social, news and media sources for a user' s search term. After listening to user feedback we realized it was time to be more than just an aggregator. Our users yearn to enhance, influence and drive the search results that show up on surchur . Rather than just aggregating the many voices on the web for a topic, we're letting our users interact with and define what is and should be the highest quality pages for that topic. We think it will result in a more complete experience for the surchur community," says founder Todd Hogan.

The update launch coincides with surchur's biggest month yet. Surchur has seen visitors to the site double nearly every month since the first of their new feature initiatives, the surchmeter, in May of this year.

"We knew that our continuing innovation in building a platform for the real time web would create a better experience for the user, but even we have been a little surprised by how quickly features like the surchmeter, the real time board and now enabling immediate user input with the "popular" tab can have on our growth," says Mr. Hogan.

The new features allow even users without an account to influence the results, though such users will have to enter a captcha served by recaptcha to do so. The search results previously served to users will remain grouped by their respective categories: blogs, social web, news, pictures, video and products; only now they will be displayed in a more easily navigable tab structure to improve the user experience. In addition, users will have the ability to drive results they see from these categories into the "popular" tab by voting for their favorite pages.

"We think that continuous innovation is what sets us apart from the majority of real time search engines," Mr Hogan says. "We were in the real time search business earlier than most and we intend to be here for a long time."
