Surviving the Summer Months, Hastings and Hastings Offers Advice

Anyone who's ever resided in the valley of the sun knows that for eight months out of the year the desert is a paradise. Residents also know that for four months of the year, the summer, the valley of the sun becomes an episode from Dante's Inferno

PHOENIX, AZ, August 11, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- But adhering to a few simple summer survival tips can make summer manageable.

First and foremost, dehydration is the number one obstacle in the summer months. The 120 degree temperatures paired with the arid desert climate can make hydration difficult. Drinking a gallon of water a day, avoiding excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption, and forgoing excessive exercise are all highly advisable. The symptoms of dehydration are as follows: dry mouth, dizziness, confusion, flushing of the skin, fainting, and headaches. If you notice any of these symptoms, head indoors immediately, and contact a medical professional if necessary. People die every year from dehydration.

One of the best ways to avoid the sweltering summer heat while still enjoying the outdoors is to spend time near the pool, or any body of water for that matter. Indeed, the act of immersing oneself in water, and reemerging amidst a summer breeze serves as a natural air-conditioner.

It is also highly advisable to plan vacation time around the summer months. Usually, a week or two away from the scorching Arizona summer should suffice to restore sanity. Some excellent summer vacation destinations include: Rocky Point Mexico, Mazatlan Mexico, Mission Beach San Diego, Park City Utah, Flagstaff Arizona, Reno Las Vegas, and Portland Oregon.

But perhaps the most important tip for surviving summer is to keep perspective hoc etiam transibit (this too shall pass). Eventually the summer heat melts away and the blissful climate all Arizonans enjoy returns, triumphantly.
