'Survivorman' Nominated for 3 Canadian Screen Awards

Star, producer and cameraman Les Stroud recognized for photography, writing, host skills.

HUNTSVILLE, ON, February 12, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- OLN Canada and Discovery Channel's highly rated survival show, Survivorman, has been nominated for three 2015 Canadian Screen Awards. Announced by The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, the categories include Best Photography Series Lifestyle/Reality; Best Writing Lifestyle/Reality Program or Series; and Best Host Variety/Lifestyle/Competition/Talk Show Reality Series. The awards gala will be broadcast live Sunday, March 1 on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

"I am deeply honored to be nominated for these Canadian Screen Awards," said Les Stroud, also known as Survivorman. "My work on Survivorman truly is a labor of love, and it's something I've shaped my life around. Every episode, I face isolation and, frequently, life-threatening danger. To receive this kind of recognition, it makes it all worthwhile--and then some." Stroud is the only producer in the history of television to design an internationally broadcast series entirely written, videotaped and hosted alone.

As Survivorman, Stroud has faced every extreme that Mother Nature can throw at him, from surviving at sea to foraging while shipwrecked on a desert island and more, logging a half-million miles trekking across the world in the process. Known as the original genre creator of 'Survival TV,' Survivorman is one of the highest rated shows in the history of OLN Canada, the Science Channel US and Discovery Channel US, and remains the highest rated repeat show on the Discovery Channel. Survivorman is licensed for broadcast worldwide, with ratings in the US hitting 2 million on individual episodes. To date, Stroud has been nominated for 19 Canadian Screen Awards (formerly the Gemini's), including winning for Best Writer.

A celebrated keynote speaker, musician and author, two of his books, Survive! - Essential Skills and Tactics to Get You Out of Anywhere-Alive! (Harper Collins) and Will to Live, have made the New York Times bestseller list, and a third, Beyond Survivorman, delves more deeply into his life's adventures. Stroud also won the Executive Producers Award for Excellence at the Lewiston Film Festival.

A highly regarded musician, Stroud recently released his new album, Barn Sessions III - Off the Grid. The live, earth music collection was created in Stroud's solar-powered property, deep in the woods of Ontario, Canada, and includes collaboration with a number of other well-known musicians. Throughout his musical career, Stroud has shared the stage with the top in the business, including Slash, Steve Stevens, Alice Cooper, Steven Stills, Tommy Shaw, Robbie Krieger, Blues Traveler, Tesla, Jakob Dylan, Randy Bachman, Chicago, Montgomery Gentry, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Roots. Revered worldwide for his iconic harmonica playing, his songwriting style runs an eclectic gambit, from art-folk-roots rock to contemporary art rock. He has written all the theme songs for his TV series and scored several independent films, and he has won numerous regional music festivals.
