/Cambridge Who's Who/ - Boston, MA, July 13, 2008, Susan Hallenborg Ventura, Assistant Professor at Northeastern University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of physical therapy education.

Dr. Ventura is an experienced physical therapist, assistive technology practitioner, and scholar. She has worked in the Department of Physical Therapy at Northeastern University as an associate clinical professor for ten years and an assistant professor on the tenure track for one year. She teaches curricular content related to assistive technology and the psychosocial aspects of physical therapy, which are also reflected in her research. She conducts community-based participatory research that is focused on improving the ability of people with disabilities to obtain and effectively utilize the assistive technology they need to ensure optimal health and well-being. The goals of her research are to 1) identify actual and perceived barriers in law, policy, and society that limit the potential of people with disabilities to live safe, independent and productive lives within community settings; 2) foster interdisciplinary University-community collaborations to develop and implement problem-solving strategies that have the broadest possible impact; and 3) encourage active engagement in the political process by people with disabilities and others who share the common goal of improving the quality of life of people with disabilities.

Dr. Ventura is the author of a number of articles and book chapters on seating, mobility, and other forms of assistive technology. She is also co-author of a textbook, Psychosocial Aspects of Health Care, which has been widely adopted by faculty in physical and occupational therapy programs in the US and abroad. She received her Ph.D. in Law, Policy and Society from Northeastern University and holds a Masters in Education and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the same institution. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America, and the State Rehabilitation Council of the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission.
