/24-7PressRelease/ - CHICAGO, IL, August 24, 2007 - "Suspicious Clowns 9" marks the Chicago sketch comedy group's first foray into DVD technology. Featuring a three-camera edit of the show's raucous closing night, a commentary track, a short 'indie' film, promotional videos and a slew of extras, producers Vincent Truman and Robert Felker have gone to great pains to make the release special.
"It was vital to both of us that the disc wasn't just a transfer of some video onto disc," explains Truman. "That would not have any value, except for a historical record. No, it was very important to have three cameras shooting the action and also line up all the other stuff to include on the DVD, so it would bear repeat viewings."
Among those "other things" is "Le Date", a short film directed by Felker and featuring Truman as a man who prepares a romantic dinner for his date - which happens to be merely a 8x10 headshot of an actress. When Truman gets frisky with the photograph, he is shocked when his girlfriend - actually, another actress' 8x10 headshot - returns home. As the two headshots get into a catfight on film, we realize we are watching one of the more absurd and funny filmed bits ever.
The DVD's main section, the performance of the live piece 'Suspicious Clowns 9', is the definite highlight. Going effortlessly from slapstick to metacommentary, from absurdism to a particularly potent monologue about mortality, Suspicious Clowns infuses each scene with real characters caught in the apex of a crazy world - just like the rest of us.
