BRENTWOOD, TN, November 14, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Sylvia M. McQueen, Southeast Regional Medical Director and Chief Patient Safety Officer for Prison Health Services, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of correctional healthcare.

Dr. McQueen has 16 years of medical experience and thirteen years with Prison Health Services, an agency dedicated to providing healthcare for the incarcerated population throughout the United States. A specialist in Internal Medicine, she is responsible for supervising comprehensive health services in jails in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia, overseeing quality improvement audits, peer review, mortality review, patient safety, direct patient care and writing policies and procedures. Dr. McQueen decided to devote her talents to serving inmates because she felt she was called to treat people with humility and without judgment. She is also a United Nations prayer representative for the state of Tennessee and attributes her success to her compassion and commitment to treating everyone with kindness and respect.

In addition to receiving her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Maryland, Dr. McQueen received her MD through Meharry Medical College. She is a member of the Society of Correctional Physicians, Alpha Kappa Alpha, the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association. She volunteers regularly with local communities and medical missions. In 2007, Dr. McQueen received the Regional Medical Director of the Year Award from Prison Health Services. She also received the Clifford Jacobs Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Patient Care.

Dr. McQueen goals for the future include establishing a scholarship fund in honor of her late father, William Henry McQueen and a non-profit organization to continue her humanitarian efforts toward reducing and eliminating poverty, poor health and illiteracy all over the world.
