Tagomatic developed a software tool, Tagosaurus, which allows Internet users to automatically search their MP3 collections to find similar, recommended, bands stored in the Tagomatic recommendations database.
Tagosaurus is an application that runs in the browser and has two major features for MP3 music file users. The main purpose of Tagosaurus is to search a user's MP3 collection, gathering band names, and return an interactive list of similar bands that the user might also like. This feature automates the usage of the Tagomatic search engine, which is also searchable on the Tagomatic web site, allowing a user to find music recommendations in bulk. The second feature in Tagosaurus acts as an automatic genre playlist creator. This feature can create playlists from the user's MP3 collection, consisting of groupings of all similar bands. The playlist feature will make a playlist of the "web" of bands that are related to one another through the "tagged" relationships of similar bands. Tagomatic.com is a free community-based service that allows users to "tag" similar entities of entertainment media. Fans of music, movies, books, and web sites can tag their favorite items with whom, or what, is similar to them. The information is searchable and allows the public to find new types of entertainment that is similar to something they already enjoy. For music lovers, this means finding new bands that are similar to bands they already listen to. Movie and book lovers can find recommendations on Tagomatic as well. The web site search feature allows a user to find similar online auction sites, for example, simply by typing in the web site address of the leading web auction site. Tagomatic calls itself a Community-Built Recommendation System and hopes to do for entertainment recommendations what other sites have done to create an open community-developed information site.
