Gwinnett County officials have issued a rabies alert for all of Gwinnett County. The county asks anyone that has been scratched or bitten by an animal to call the Animal Welfare and Enforcement office.
It is crucial that family pets have rabies shots in case they come in contact with a rabid animal such as this one. Rabies is collected in the saliva of the carrier and can be spread to other animals and humans through cuts, scratches or even through the eyes, mouth and nose. Rabies is not only infectious but often fatal.
