/24-7PressRelease/ - LOS ANGELES, CA, February 24, 2007 - "Bully-Proofing Children," a book recently released by Rowman and Littlefield Publishers takes target at the timeless issue of bullying, on the rise and growing to epidemic proportions. "Bullying is a ticking bomb in our schools and Society...."Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske. According to authors, Joanne and Arrica Rose Scaglione, "The schoolyard is being replaced in many cases by cyberspace as the place to harass others. And because one may now communicate anonymously through modern technology and never face a victim, bullies are growing in number and have become more vicious than ever." It's called cyberbullying.

Alarming statistics show that "1 of 3 teens and 1 of 6 preteens are victims of cyberbullying"...adding 13 million more children to the growing list of victimized children. How many other children suffering in silence are out there? Are we waiting for another Columbine before we address this issue?

In a controversy recently, authors, Joanne and Arrica Scaglione have accused America's Idol, Simon Cowell and George W. Bush of contributing to the rise of bullying behaviors in children. They assert that as role models, on a top television show and as President, they promote bullying by exhibiting and engaging in this behavior themselves. They claim that the attitude picked up by children is, if they can be bullies, why shouldn't I.

"Bully-Proofing Children," highly-acclaimed by educational experts, is a comprehensive guide, that addresses this issue head-on. It outlines, step-by-step in detail how to finally put an end to bullying and teasing. Written by a school counselor, who has been on the front lines ...working with parents, teachers and schools in grades k-12 and her daughter, who still remembers witnessing and experiencing bullying in early school years...the book not only skillfully paints a clear picture of the problem and its causes but "... offers specific ideas and strategies to address bullying in the home and in the school program which sets this work apart from others and makes it a must-read. {The Scagliones's} have produced an important work on an important subject and given the high stakes of inaction, no parent or educator should underestimate how critical it is to prioritize this issue, move it to the front burner and take the correct courses of action to keep our schools safe places to learn." Dr Robert Fraisse, Distinguished Educator in Residence, Director of the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program, California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, California.
