AUSTIN, TX, April 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- TechTurn, the leader in IT asset retirement and disposal, today announces its fourth consecutive year of sponsorship of the Earth Day e-scrap collection event in Washington, D.C., in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Dell. TechTurn will process all collected used computer equipment at its Richmond, Virginia facility.

"TechTurn is proud to work with the EPA and Dell to sponsor this collection event for the fourth consecutive year", said Jake Player, TechTurn's President. "Residents in the DC area should be confident that their used electronics will be handled in a responsible manner. We look forward to continuing this sponsorship support for years to come."

TechTurn provides 100 percent assurance that all used electronics will be handled properly and in accordance with its zero landfill policy and TechTurn's commitment to the new Responsible Recycling (R2) Standards.

TechTurn's Austin based processing facility became the world's first to be certified to the R2/RIOS standard in December, 2009. This new standard -- fully supported by the U.S. EPA, major computer OEMs, the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), state and local governments, and the Electronic Recyclers' Industry Association (ISRI) -- is a stringent set of requirements for electronics recyclers' environmental, worker health and safety, and security practices. The standard can be found at the US EPA's web site.

"Dell is working to make 'being green' easy and cost-effective for our customers," said Mike Watson, Dell's global compliance manager. "On the recycling front, that means we'll pick up a consumer's PC at their home for free recycling, they can ship it to us for free, or they can drop it at one of more than 1,900 Goodwill locations for 1,500 Staples stores. And DC area residents can come participate in Saturday's event."

This year's collection event will be held at National Harbor in Maryland on Saturday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All computer electronic equipment will be accepted.

TechTurn is the world leader in end-of-life IT asset management solutions. Since 1999, TechTurn has been the preferred take-back partner for 300 of the Fortune 500 and the top four computer manufacturers. These leading organizations trust TechTurn to properly retire their IT assets providing data sanitization, value recovery, and robust real-time reporting. TechTurn is the world's first Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher and its Austin location is the world's first R2/RIOS certified processing facility, a new standard created and endorsed by the U.S. EPA, leading computer manufacturers, and others.
