Texas Businesses Combating Outbreak of H1N1 (Swine Influenza)

HOUSTON, TX, May 08, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The H1N1 virus, incorrectly referred to as "swine flu" was first detected in April 2009 in the United States, although Mexico and Canada are also report cases of the virus. Although it was originally thought to be swine flu, it actually holds viral genes that circulate in pigs in Europe and Asia, as well as avian (bird) and human genes.

No matter how strange that might sound, the fact remains that H1N1 spreads in the same manner as seasonal flu, and has been found in over 400 people in the U.S.; 41 of which live in Texas. Those who work outside of the home or come in daily contact with many people need to follow good hygiene and health habits to help contain the spread.

"The ongoing outbreak of novel influenza A (H1N1) continues to expand in the United States and internationally. CDC expects that more cases, more hospitalizations and more deaths from this outbreak will occur over the coming days and weeks." May 5th, 2009 - CDC.gov

Due to a high number of correspondences over these health issues, http://greenefficient.com [Green Efficient], the only US LEED-based building maintenance company, widened their services to help the CDC and health official combat the problem.

"I've received numerous calls and emails over the past couple of days, asking about additional services we can provide to add to the Cleaning for Healthy Workplaces programs we already have in place throughout Texas," says Rick Walker, CEO of Green Efficient. "One of the very first things I tell our worried clients is to ask their staff to take extra precautions with flu-related symptoms; to see their primary care physician before reporting to work if they don't feel well; to ask that they increase their hand-washing routine to hourly."

Green Efficient has also begun offering other services to help combat any potential flu-related transmissions:

• Offering building tenants the opportunity to lease a LEED-safe ozone air sanitizer during the flu season for their common areas, such as lobbies, kitchens and large work areas. The sanitizer, which covers 65,000 cubic foot areas, works by creating a high-powered super-charged oxidizing molecule. The molecule attacks contaminants like bacteria, molds and odors, turning them into pure oxygen and the oxidized substances left.
• Offering to have staff come into the business facility and perform sanitizations of telephone mouthpieces, door, elevator and stairwell handles, vending machines, and all break room and common area high-touch services. In addition, Green Efficient has access to pallets of hand sanitizer in pump gallons.

Due to high demand, the above are in short supply. "The high demand for the products is making them hard to hold on to, but I've managed to reserve some for our clients," says Rick. "As a leader in the building maintenance business and LEED facilitator, not to mention a fellow human being, I have to and will do what I can to help my clients and their employees."
