'Thanksgiving on a Bun' is The Eatery's Newest Holiday Favorite

    FORT WORTH, TX, November 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Around Thanksgiving, it's normal to enjoy turkey, gravy, dressing and cranberry sauce. But it's a little unusual to enjoy all of it at the same time wrapped in a bun. Then again, The Eatery is a Fort Worth comfort food restaurant with an established menu full of home-cooked favorites that isn't afraid to take a few chances.

"We experiment a lot with different foods and we started to think about the holidays," explained Cindy Gifford, who owns The Eatery with her husband, Don. "We have a set menu but we're always adding things in." Their holiday addition includes cranberry chutney and sliced boiled eggs on the sandwich, and a side of their special jalapeno mashed sweet potatoes.

Like the rest of their menu, the mashed sweet potatoes include the kinds of ingredients you'd find in any well-stocked kitchen: Butter, sugar and cinnamon. Natural ingredients combine with from-scratch recipes (The Eatery boils chickens and makes their own stock for its signature chicken and dumplings, for example) to create the kind of Texas-style dishes that are normally found at family gatherings.

In fact, The Eatery's popular meals started out at family gatherings, parties and other events as Gifford's catering business took off in Haltom City. The growing company needed a way to defray their kitchen costs, and her son suggested selling sandwiches and other meals at their small location. Armed with her grandmother's recipes and her own interest in experimenting, Gifford began making an assortment of soon-to-be-favorites, including meat loaf, pot roast and their "to die for dumplings."

Now their new Thanksgiving sandwich will take its place with the rest of The Eatery's menu, where every dish might be different but they all share the same beginning. "We produce it with lots of love--the old fashioned way," Gifford said.

"The Eatery has delicious food and a friendly staff," said Ron Sturgeon, a local small business marketing consultant who specializes in web marketing for small business. "I think a slice of pumpkin pie would be perfect with Thanksgiving on a bun," Sturgeon said.

The Thanksgiving sandwich will be available until December 15 and will cost $5.95.
