STONE, AK, February 18, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Magnus and Johnson McGee succeed Glenn Edwards McGee, PhD who is Founding Editor in Chief. McGee held the Editor-in-Chief position since the journal's debut in 2000. The transition which began in early November 2011, will culminate when the new Editors take the helm March 1st, 2012. During this transition, Glenn McGee is serving in an advisory capacity.
The American Journal of Bioethics, the most-cited bioethics journal in its field according to Journal Citation Reports, is published by Taylor and Francis.
I couldn't be more proud of what AJOB has accomplished in the last 11 years," said McGee. "It has been an honor to be part of changing bioethics publishing."
Dr. David Magnus, Thomas A. Raffin Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Ethics, Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Center for Biomedical Ethics at Stanford University is a prominent and visible figure in the field. Magnus is also the current President of the Association of Bioethics Program Directors.
Magnus had one condition for taking on increased responsibility for AJOB that Dr. Summer Johnson McGee, the journal's current Executive Editor agree to serve as Editor- in-Chief with him. David said, "Summer is the backbone of the journal and is more than ready to take on the leadership role."
Summer Johnson McGee focuses her research on public health ethics and has been AJOB's Executive Editor since 2008. Johnson McGee is a professor at Loyola University Chicago where she teaches in the Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy. She has also served as an associate professor at the University of
Kansas Medical Center and has been the director of two graduate programs in bioethics.
