The \'Aviator\' And Movie Mogul Howard Hughes\' 1936 Lincoln Camera Car Will Hit The Auction Block By Late January

Howard Hughes\' 1936 Lincoln Model K Camera Car will be auctioned on OnlineAuction.com later this month.

/24-7PressRelease.com/ - January 19, 2005 - Grants Pass, Oregon -- A genuine piece of automotive and movie history, Hughes' 1936 Lincoln Model K, converted by Howard Hughes into a camera car for RKO pictures, will be the featured item on OnlineAuction.com's site later this month.

Hughes, arguably the most secretive and self-destructive man ever to win fame in Southern California's glamorous industries--movies and aviation. A maverick who was among the first to challenge the aviation industry and the supremacy of studio moguls and their strict moral codes.

Starting life as a 4-door open car, the 1936 Lincoln Camera Car was featured in a major automotive magazine not long after Ed Pickett, owner of Horseless Carriage Garage in Canyonville, Ore. purchased the car in California. In an interview with James Farrell of Roseburg, Ore.--Pickett's estate attorney and an old car enthusiast himself--Pickett claims to have seen newsreel coverage of the car with Hughes in it before it was converted into a camera car.

According to Pickett, instead of selling the Lincoln Model K when he bought a new car Hughes used his creative genius to convert this luxury car into a camera car and is believed to be the first of three or four automobiles converted by Hughes. Hughes had one of his aircraft factories chop the windshield header and the tops of the doors and cap them with aluminum. He also removed the rear part of the car and had a new aluminum boattailed section installed that covered the entire rear of the car, which was used by Hughes to carry camera and film equipment needed on location.

Chris Fain, Founder and CEO of OnlineAuction.com (www.OnlineAuction.com) and Vice President and Co-Owner Bernie Zieminski, purchased the car on September 18, 2004 from the Ed Pickett Estate Auction and plan to feature the camera car in honor of their grand opening.
