RALEIGH, NC, March 04, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine (CCIM), the Triangle's leading provider of integrative medical treatments and therapies, is pleased to announce that is now offering patients the only long-lasting US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved testosterone replacement therapy. Testopel , marketed by Slate Pharmaceuticals of Durham, North Carolina, has been shown to restore to normal condition testosterone levels in men who have the medical condition known as Low T (low testosterone).

Testosterone is the hormone responsible for the normal growth and development of male sex and reproductive organs. Beyond sexual function, testosterone plays a key role in overall male health and well-being. An estimated 13 million men in the United States are affected by low testosterone levels. Men who are obese, diabetic, or have high blood pressure have a far greater risk of suffering from Low T. Signs of Low T can include low sex drive/Erectile Dysfunction, depressed mood, fatigue/less energy, inability to concentrate, diminished strength, increased fat accumulation, and bone loss.

"A man's testosterone level usually begins to decline from the mid-30s on," explains Dr. John Pittman, founder of The Carolina Center. "Low T is surprisingly common - yet easily treatable. Some 30% of 60-year-olds, 20% of 50-year-olds and 10% of 40-year-olds have this medical condition and most of them are not aware they have it or how easy it is to treat."

Testopel is a tiny 75mg testosterone pellet (a little smaller than a grain of rice) that is inserted just underneath the skin in the hip area. Testopel releases a steady dose of testosterone for up to six months, allowing patients to see their physician as little as twice a year for testosterone replacement therapy. The more commonly used testosterone replacement gels must be administered daily and an injection alternative lasts only a few weeks. Testopel is also less costly for the patient and actual treatment administration takes only 10 minutes.

"The addition of Testopel to our current treatment services enables us to offer our patients another valuable solution in men's health and reinforces our commitment to help improve the quality of life for all of our patients," adds Dr. Pittman.
