PHILADELPHIA, PA, January 08, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia is excited to announce a new collaboration with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. In continuing to take its performances beyond the concert hall, the partnership allows hospital patients to watch archived Chamber Orchestra concert recordings through the GetWellNetwork - an interactive patient education system available through the televisions in their rooms. Each performance will be available through streaming, on demand to patients and will include video introductions by executive staff from Thomas Jefferson Hospital and The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia.
Peter H. Gistelinck, Executive Director of The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia remarked, "Enriching the lives of our City's people is in the core of The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia's mission. Our collaboration with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital gives us the opportunity to bring our performances to people who need the healing power of music the most."
The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia's Music Director, Dirk Brosse, expressed a similar sentiment, stating "I am excited to bring our orchestra's music from the theater to the halls of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Music has the unique ability to calm, comfort and uplift - all incredibly helpful and necessary benefits for any hospital patient. It is a gratifying opportunity for the Chamber Orchestra to support and participate in TJUH patients' recovery."
Stephen Klasko, MD, MBA, President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University and the TJUH System, commented "Philadelphia has a great musical tradition and a great medical tradition--it's wonderful to be able to bring them together to benefit our hospitalized patients."
Richard Pestell, Director of the Jefferson Kimmel Cancer Center, said, "Research shows that music contributes significantly to medical care - it can aid in healing. These extraordinary musicians are here in our backyard in Philadelphia, and it's wonderful to be able to offer their music to our patients."
The Chamber Orchestra has shared streaming rights for many past performances with the hospital and, in this ongoing partnership, will continue making more videos available on the GetWellNetwork as future concerts are recorded.
