TULSA, OK, May 27, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Modern dentistry has been one of the many industries to benefit from recent technological advances, according to the Tulsa cosmetic dentistry experts at Perfect Smile Tulsa.
New digital technology has made the process of making crowns much quicker and significantly more accurate. Traditionally, a crown would require your dentist to make a physical mold of the tooth and its surrounding area. That mold would then be sent to a dental laboratory where the crown would be made. You would have a temporary crown placed on the tooth while you waited the week or more for the finished crown to arrive at the dentist's office and then be placed.
This entire process was painstaking and time-intensive, and if there was an error at any point in the process, you would have to wait even longer for your tooth to be fixed.
Today, there is the option to have your entire crown process done within a single visit thanks to new digital technology. Your dentist can take a digital scan of your mouth using an intra-oral camera. From that scan, he or she can create a 3-D model of your teeth and gums on the computer. Software will suggest the ideal dimensions of the crown, and your dentist will either correct or approve these dimensions.
"From there, our dentist will send the information for your crown to a 3-D printer or a milling machine that is able to carve your new crown out of a ceramic block," says Marianne Davis, Director of Marketing for Perfect Smile Tulsa. "Once the crown is finished, it can immediately be bonded to your tooth, so you can get your crown in just a day."
This entire process takes two hours and has the same effectiveness as a traditional crown. Learn more at http://www.perfectsmiletulsa.com.
