/24-7PressRelease/ - KENT, UK, September 07, 2008 - Inside Out encourages the submission of readers' work in the belief that art is a perfect way to convey our thoughts and feelings. Not only is creating a story or piece of art rewarding in its own right, but it also contains a subtle but powerful therapeutic potential. The process of writing and illustrating can offer a clearer understanding of ourselves and any problems we may have, so that when they are put on the page, it is easier to move past them.
Therapy is expensive and time-consuming, especially when life continually throws up new stresses and turbulences. One stands to gain if one can explore the causes of any anxiety, depression, physical illness or disability. However, creativity through art can stand as a constant assistant to enduring and moving past these problems. Self-help can be enhanced by putting pen to paper.
With the stresses of modern life, Inside Out is publication that shows how visual art is not reserved for the highly trained, and writing is not only for professional authors; rather both practices are ideal for self-development. As well as reader submissions, Inside Out promotes ideas from authors and creative therapists on how to use art as a form of therapy.
Issue 1 features interviews with Victoria Field, the UK's first Poetry Therapist; the author and poet Blake Morrison; Therapeutic Writing Consultant Gillie Bolton, and the installation artist La La; and each page is designed by a separate commissioned artist.
In appearance, the magazine is like a private journal. In its approach and message, Inside Out is a unique publication. It provides readers with the tools to access their feelings through the use of the arts and to then move on from them. In itself it is a creative new approach to psychology.
