/24-7PressRelease.com/ - January 18, 2005 - A letter of congratulations and prayer was despatched to Mahmoud Abbas, the newly elected chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization. The document also focused on the need to achieve a just and stable peace in the Middle East, so that all its nations live as good neighbours and work together to achieve development and prosperity for the entire region.
Archbishop Gary Beaver called for a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and offered the assistance of the Interdenominational Church in the planned negotiation working towards a future agreement.
The Interdenominational Church of the Holy Lands is seeking a special statute for Jerusalem, internationally guaranteed, which should safeguard the following:
1. Freedom of religion and conscience for all;
2.The equality before the law of the Independent Old Catholic religion and their institutions and followers in the City;
3. The identity and sacred character of the City and its universally significant, religious and cultural heritage;
4. The Holy Places, the freedom of access to them and of worship in them.
5. The Regime of "Status Quo" in those Holy Places where it applies.
The Interdenominational Church declared its permanent commitment to uphold and observe the human right to freedom of religion and conscience, as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in other international instruments relative to its application, and has suggested the formation of a Bilateral Church Working Commission.
Archbishop Gary Beaver stated "It is the duty of the Interdenominational Church to support cooperation in promoting respect for human rights, individual and collective, in combating all forms of discrimination and threats to human life and dignity, as well as to the promotion of understanding and harmony between nations and communities."
