Webster Avenue in Chicago, on Thursday, May 29, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. as they host "Save the Girls," a social and networking event which will raise money to fund no cost mammograms for the uninsured and underinsured individuals and to raise awareness of the need for early detection of breast cancer. The evening features a selection of Italian tastes, including wine, beer and appetizers. Advance tickets are $25 and can be purchased at http://www.asilverliningfoundation.org/tickets, with $30 admission at the door. At the event, t-shirts will be available with a donation of $10 or more.
Launched in 2002 by Dr. Sandy Goldberg, a breast cancer survivor, A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF) provides the underinsured and uninsured with information concerning cancer resources, treatment options and support services. All proceeds from the "Save the Girls" event go to ASLF's unique Buy A Mom A Mammogram program, which funds screening mammograms at The University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, South Shore Hospital in Chicago, and Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights to qualifying women in a timely, dignified and respectful fashion. Since the Buy A Mom A Mammogram program's inception in 2006, ASLF has provided more than 2,000 women with information about and access to no cost screening mammograms. In response to the growing number of women needing follow up due to a possible abnormality, the foundation began funding diagnostic testing in 2007.
"For every six guests at the Save the Girls event, one woman in Chicago will receive a potentially lifesaving mammogram," said Goldberg. "By coming out to Enoteca Piattini and enjoying time with friends, you have the opportunity to make a huge difference in someone's life."
Since ASLF was launched in 2002 as a 501(c)3 charitable organization by Dr. Sandy Goldberg, the foundation has provided over 450,000 people with information about cancer resource information, treatment options and support services. Through the organization's programs, services and personal support, the foundation strives to provide opportunities for medically underserved people affected by cancer. The philosophy of the foundation is based on two phrases Dr. Goldberg's mother used to live by: "No matter what your situation, you have to see the silver lining." and "We are all family and we have to help each other through the tough times." With 47,000,000 Americans currently living without health insurance, the Buy A Mom A Mammogram provides a silver lining to those in need.

The organization runs three cancer related programs: BUY A MOM A MAMMOGRAM , the Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition (CCIC) and The Evelyn Goldberg Center at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago.
The Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition is comprised of advocacy groups, social service, voluntary and community-based health organizations as well as city and county departments that are dedicated and committed in the fight against cancer.
The Evelyn Goldberg Center's services include a library containing a broad range of cancer information and the Evelyn Goldberg Quality of Life Assistance Fund, a financial grant program provides support services for patients undergoing treatment.
