GROVER BEACH, CA, September 21, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The Sister Soldier Project, which has, during the past two years, shipped thousands of care packages of goods to Black female US troops—the Sister Soldiers—serving in the Middle East, has received the Congressional Black Caucus' Veterans Braintrust Award for 2009, recognized for the Project's "service and dedication to, or in support of, the United States Armed Forces".
The award also commends the Sister Soldier Project for its "unique understanding of the special position of African American servicemen and women".
Myraline Morris Whitaker, Founder of the Project, will receive this prestigious award on Thursday, September 24, 2009, in Washington, at the 21st Annual Veterans Braintrust Reception, Grand Hyatt Hotel, 1000 H St. NW, Washington, DC 20001.
Whitaker states that "on behalf of all the volunteers and supporters, without whose efforts the Project could not exist, I proudly accept this wonderful award and graciously thank the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Rep. Corrine Brown, and all those involved in the award's nomination and election process." Whitaker also reiterates that "the hundreds and hundreds of thank-you notes and letters from the Sister Soldiers continue to energize and constantly rededicate our efforts to continue serving our Sisters overseas".
The Sister Soldier Project's web site http://www.sistersoldierproject.com makes it possible for any individual to support the Project's efforts by logging on and sponsoring one or more care packages to the Sister Soldiers.
About Sister Soldier Project
The Sister Soldiers Project was born out of the desire to send "care packages" to the brave women serving our nation, containing various ethnic personal care products so important to their quality of life, products unavailable to them through normal channels, thus giving them at least a small taste of their "normal" lives back home.
