December 25, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The SSA Adds 13 New Compassionate Allowance Conditions

The U.S. Social Security Administration offers retirement, disability and survivors benefits to disadvantaged Americans. It also provides additional income to those who qualify and makes healthcare available to millions of people through Medicare and Medicaid.

Unfortunately, the benefits application process can be long and arduous, and is often too much for inexperienced individuals to handle. However, sometimes waiting isn't an option -- certain people need immediate help due to a serious condition or disability. The SSA believes it has an obligation to provide benefits quickly to these applicants because their condition so obviously qualifies for aid.

Compassionate Allowances -- 13 New Conditions Added

Diseases or other medical conditions that consistently qualify for disability benefits are known as Compassionate Allowances, otherwise identified as CAL.

The success or failure of a CAL application often affects a person's quality of life and his or her ability to acquire necessities such as food and clothing. Because of this, it is imperative to strictly adhere to the application requirements. It is recommended that anyone seeking expedited disability benefits consult an experienced social security disability lawyer to ensure their claim is not rejected on improper filing or administrative grounds.

A successful CAL claim will qualify under the SSA's Listing of Impairments so long as there is sufficient, objective medical information available meeting the administration's requirements. Additionally, a person must suffer from one of the 113 medical conditions listed by the SSA. This list was recently increased from 100 to 113 in October 2011, with 13 new ailments going into effect on December 10. Some of these new conditions include:
-Lowe Syndrome
-Primary Effusion Lymphoma
-Multiple System Atrophy
-Malignant Multiple Sclerosis
-Angelman Syndrome

Of course, these are just a handful of qualifying conditions eligible for CAL benefits. A complete list can be found on the SSA's website.

Be aware, however, that the chance of rejection increases significantly when someone unfamiliar with the process tries to apply without professional help. There are professionals willing to guide you through the process and help you get the assistance you need and deserve. Therefore, anyone seeking benefits should speak with an experienced social security disability attorney to discuss his or her claim.
