Jurdy, the super green hero for students

/24-7PressRelease/ -- Ocean City Elementary School (OCES), a National Blue Ribbon School, launched a year-long environmental education program in all of its 4th grade classrooms this year called the "Jurdy get grinning, get greening" lessons. This program is running throughout the entire school year with monthly lessons on the environment with visits from the larger-than-life mascot, Jurdy, the award-winning, super green hero character.
Last year, Jurdy dazzled the 4th grade students and teachers at Ocean City Elementary School, a Maryland and National Blue Ribbon School (not to mention all of the awards and recognition OCES has garnered since then). Headed up by the Maryland Distinguished Principal, Irene Kordick has blazed quite a successful trail with the saying she wrote which was adopted by the school as both its mission statement and school motto: "I can be anything, I can learn anything, if I believe in myself and work hard." Jurdy is proud to be partnering with a school like OCES that holds such high expectations for its students, faculty and administration alike, providing a safe and smart environment to promote excellence in every classroom, hallway and office.
With a brand new curriculum and a brand new mascot to lead the way, get grinning. get greening. empowers students like no other program to help protect the environment. "It gives the students ownership and pride in making their world a greener, healthier place while giving teachers a straightforward way to enhance the material they already teach," says creator Jenifer Jurden. The students are not the only ones who are empowered, teacher feedback is that this curriculum is easy to integrate into their already established curricula, be it for English, math, science, social studies, and even physical education.
Together, Jurdy and OCES make a great green team. The program starts with a visit from the Jurdy mascot and a video introduction to Jurdy by Jurden herself. Alongside eight environmental lessons, videos, educational handouts, stickers and worksheets, the Jurdy mascot brings the environment to life by giving the students a friend they can join in their green efforts. Jurdy delivers an interactive and engaging program to include relevant and timely topics such as recycling, oil spills, biodiversity, endangered species, wetlands, and water conservation, just to name a few.
