The Switch Evolution Reveal How to Inspire Budding Entrepreneurs

With the number of young people interested in starting businesses dwindling, Sydney-based The Switch Evolution are warning business experts that drastic action must be taken now to inspire young people.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, April 27, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In a recent survey commissioned by Google, starting a business is currently an unpopular career choice among school pupils. The survey found that a disappointing 78% of 15 to 18 year olds currently have no interest in setting up their own ventures, a figure which has the potential to put the world's entrepreneurial future in jeopardy.

Whilst not thrilled by the results of Google's study, Sydney-based sales and marketing firm, The Switch Evolution, believe that these results highlight failings within entrepreneurship education, and furthermore are confident that as long as established entrepreneurs work together and are willing to act now, youth entrepreneurship has the potential to soar.

Currently entrepreneurship has no real presence in the classroom and is often only introduced in schools in the form of after school clubs or extra credit courses. Whilst these offerings are generally popular with the academically gifted, pupils who struggle are less likely to volunteer for after school activities and as a result are missing out on potentially life changing education. The Switch Evolution has long believed that entrepreneurship should not be reserved for those with academic talents; in fact many of the greatest entrepreneurs in the last 50 years did not perform well in school. By offering entrepreneurial education in a format that only appeals to the academically talented, schools are depriving those who struggle of practical and transferable life skills that could change the way they see the world.

The Switch Evolution are confident that if more was done to get young people engaged with entrepreneurship, a greater number of pupils - and not just the most academic - will begin to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career option. The firm are urging established entrepreneurs to take this gauntlet and play their part in inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs in the following ways:

1. Go back to school and give a talk
Going back to school allows an entrepreneur the opportunity to inspire pupils who may feel lost or disengaged with formal education. For maximum impact, entrepreneurs should steer clear of slideshows and instead, offer an honest account of how being an entrepreneur can be challenging, exciting and rewarding.

2. Become a mentor
Many young people struggle to find a role model with business experience who'll donate time to helping them learn the necessary skills and gain the experience needed to launch a venture. By volunteering just a few hours of their time each month, established entrepreneurs have the potential to set a young person on the path to starting their own business.

3. Offer work experience
No amount of presentations or talks can really paint a clear picture of what it means to be an entrepreneur, therefore offering work experience is a great way to inspire young people by letting them get up close and personal with business. The Switch Evolution suggest entrepreneurs really give young people an insight into what running a company involves by allowing them to shadow, as it is important to give young people the chance to add value and shine.

The Switch Evolution work with a number of young people, many of whom had not previously considered entrepreneurship before. Through a combination of mentoring, seminars, networking and travel opportunities The Switch Evolution are able to educate and prepare young people for entrepreneurship and help them surpass their potential, regardless of academic ability or previous experience.
