WASHINTON, DC, October 08, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Senator Joe Biden got it right last night. Repeating what the Obama-Biden campaign has been saying about the cornerstone in rebuilding the American middle class, Sen. Biden cautioned the public to "make no mistake about it...education is the key to building our economy and rebuilding our historically important middle class." The connection between the Obama-Biden campaign and its education plan has been consistent and clear.

The following statement was released today by AFSA President Jill Levy:

"Most telling is the Obama campaign's commitment to funding public education at a level that is meaningful and at the same time, placing a new emphasis on universal early childhood education.

"Only the Obama-Biden team has publicly recognized that the key to successful schools is not only good teachers in classrooms, but that principals and other supervisory personnel play critical roles by providing the overarching leadership and environment where good teaching and learning happen.

"On the other hand, Gov. Palin gave lip service to the importance of education, but her principal, John McCain, has too simple a solution for a complex problem, following the Bush education agenda of a punitive, under-funded NCLB and establishment of national vouchers. Although McCain's campaign points to early childhood education, he has not supported the necessary increased funding in education overall.

"AFSA members are accountable to the children and parents whom we serve, and we must have national leadership that is accessible, intelligent and supportive of a strong public education system for all children who are indeed the economic future of our country."

Author, Jill S. Levy, International President-AFSA is the national union of education leaders, representing over 20,000 school principals, assistant principals, supervisors and education professionals throughout the nation, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
