/24-7PressRelease/ - RICHMOND, VA, November 02, 2007 - The Virginia Center for Policing Innovation (VCPI) marked its 10th year of innovative service on September 5th. The nonprofit organization based in Richmond has spent the last ten years advancing public safety by providing unparalleled training and services for law enforcement professionals and the communities it serves.

In December of 1997, VCPI offered its first training experience to 29 law enforcement participants. In the decade since VCPI has offered nearly 1000 courses and trained more than 25,000 participants. VCPI proactively identifies areas of need and develops curriculum and services to address the critical issues facing public safety, such as human trafficking, street gangs, advanced court security, Spanish language acquisition, problem solving, stress management, advanced search & seizure, the search warrant process, and interview & interrogation.

"The Virginia Center for Policing Innovation is a powerful resource for the public safety community," said Lynda O'Connell, Executive Director. "We have evolved from a training organization to a primary provider of assistance, services and programs to the public safety community."

The Center is currently working to enhance the Virginia Sex Offender Registry, to provide Automated Victim Information and Notification in Virginia's local and regional jails, to enhance courthouse security in the Commonwealth through assessment services and training, and to promote the development of partnerships between private security and law enforcement through education.

Instead of focusing on the accomplishments of the past decade, VCPI is using its 10th anniversary as an opportunity to focus on what can be accomplished beyond this point. "What's exciting is what's waiting for us. We're expanding and refining our services and strategizing new ways to increase our reach and impact over the next 10 years," said O'Connell.

The Virginia Center for Policing Innovation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to advancing public safety by providing unparalleled training and services for law enforcement professionals and the communities they serve. Further information on the Center can be obtained at http://www.vcpionline.org or by contacting Lynda S. O'Connell, Executive Director at (804)644-0601 or via email at loconnell@vcpionline.org.
