RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO - July 8, 2011 - Visual Defence Inc. (VDI), a leading provider of integrated security solutions is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed all extensive requirements and has achieved SAFETY Act (Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies) Designation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Visual Defence Inc is the first and only organization/corporation to hold both a US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) SECURE (System Efficacy through Commercialization, Utilization, Relevance and Evaluation) certification, administered by the DHS Science and Technology Directorate and SAFETY ACT designation.
The DHS SAFETY Act, 2002, was written to ensure that the threat of litigation and liability does not deter producers of anti-terrorism products and/or services from developing and commercializing technologies that could save lives. The Act creates certain liability limitations for producers of Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technologies (QATTs) and their customers for claims arising from acts of terrorism where the designated technologies have been deployed.
The Visual Defence's "SecurEye" - Blast Resistant, Forensic, Surveillance, IP Camera and "black box" memory module was designed, at the request of DHS for anti-terrorism initiatives, for use in Transportation and Infrastructure Protection. SecurEye addresses a key gap identified by the U.S. Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) as a security solution that provides both surveillance and forensic benefits in a cost-effective technology package. "SecurEye utilizes industry standard H.264, MPEG-4 or M-JPEG video encoding which results in the stored data being easily retrieved via a standard USB or Ethernet interface," said Leslie Barnes, Marketing Manager, Visual Defence Inc. "Playback of the recorded video can easily be accomplished using commercially available media player software."
SAFETY Act Designation requires both an extensive application and evaluation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and only those technologies that have met the rigorous evaluations required by this Act are granted permission to use the designation. The litigation protections SAFETY Act coverage affords corporations under the term "Designated Technologies" will result in reduced liability exposure for Visual Defence and its customers should a future act of terrorism occur.
The Visual Defence SecurEye Blast Resistant, Forensic, Surveillance, IP Camera and "black box" memory is manufactured and assembled in the United States in a designated Hub Zone in western New York State. A variety of models are listed and currently available on GSA I/T 70 Schedule which facilitates an ease of acquisition for authorized federal and state agencies.
