Theresa M. Vallerand, CTR, BGS, Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Health Care

After obtaining a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut, Theresa M. Vallerand embarked on a career in health care. Throughout the last three decades, she has held positions at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Maine Cancer Registry, Department of Health and Human Services, Precyse Solutions, and Hospital of St. Raphael. Currently, she serves as the cancer registry manager for Wentworth-Douglas Hospital. As an expert in cancer registry management, she ensures the hospital adheres to all state regulations, manages cancer reports and accreditations, and leads by positive example.

Passionate about health care, Ms. Vallerand is mindful that accurate data helps people in their battle against cancer. She believes that the battle against cancer is a battle of discovery for each and every survivor, and that cancer registrars are their historians.

Ms. Vallerand is the president of the Cancer Registrars Association of New England, chairwoman for the Ethics Committee, public relations and community director for the National Cancer Registrars Association, and editor of The Connection for the National Cancer Registrars Association. She is also a former board member for the Maine chapter of the American Cancer Society. The highlight of her career was raising the Maine Cancer Registry Database to the gold standard recognized by the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries. Within the next five years, Ms. Vallerand aspires to become the director of a cancer program or hospice center.
