Expected to hit store shelves this month, the lovable miniature versions of the real animals will be available at most major retail toy outlets. Each Teacup Piggie comes with its very own teacup, accessories and birth certificate, and 'speaks' using 25 unique expressions. Baby-sized Teacup Piglets, meanwhile, come with their own carrying tote and nine expressions.
"This is the closest you can get to caring for a live teacup pig, only without the mess and the cost of food," notes Richard Albert, VP of Marketing and Operations for RP Toys, the exclusive distributor of Teacup Piggies and Piglets in Canada. "Each toy has its own personality and is equipped with touch point sensors to encourage imaginative play through life-like interaction," he adds.
When you talk to it, touch its nose or feed it a bottle, a Teacup Piggie or Piglet responds. If it says it's tired, that means time for a rest in the teacup or tote. If you 'wake' it up too early, however, it may whine: "Why are you waking me up?"
Considered one of the hottest toys of 2010 by Chris Byrne, "The Toy Guy," Teacup Piggies and Piglets are the latest craze in collectibles. "Based on their success in the U.S., we are expecting a great deal of enthusiasm for this product in Canada," says Albert. "Teacup Piggies are not only taking the place of real-life pets for youngsters but they're also considered a hot, new collectible item by adults as well."
The pint-sized toys come with a movable head and legs for maximum play value. Each litter is made up of five separate Piggies or Piglets. Special French language versions of the popular toys are also available.
Availability
Starting in September, select Teacup Piggies and Piglets will be available at most major retail outlets across the country. Suggested list price for a Teacup Piggie is $19.99 or less while Teacup Piglets and fashion wardrobe separates will sell for $9.99 or less.
